Iron Man: Cap. please don’t get up. I don’t want to hit you again.  Your jaw’s practically hanging off.  Just surrender and I’ll get you medical attention from the S.H.I.E.L.D. people out there.
Captain America: You really think I’m going down to some pampered punk like you?
- From Civil War vol. 1 #4 by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven.  June 2006.

Captain America: Vision, what’s the matter, man? You know no one’s supposed to enter the workout room when anyone’s in training.
The Vision (caption): They are Captain America and the Black Widow, two of my fellow Avengers.  I have known Captain America most of my sentient life.  Natasha Romanova is our team leader.  I classify both as friends.  Perhaps I should tell them of my concerns… For if I remember correctly, that’s what friends do.  But I fear that would be an imposition.
Vision: My apologies, Avengers. I was distracted.
Black Widow: Well, why don’t you do down to the kitchen and relax?
Captain America: Sounds good to me. What do you say, Vision?
Vision: I think not, thank you.
Vision (caption): I watch as they leave, their body language clearly conveying the comfort these two humans feel toward each other.  Such closeness… Such openness with another fascinates me.  I could mimic the tilt of a hip, the slope of a shoulder… But the subtext of the act is denied me.
- From Avengers vol. 1 #367 by Bob Harras and Jim Hall.  October 1993.  Why is the Vision saying “if I remember correctly”?  Doesn’t he always remember correctly?
I loved the costume Natasha was wearing at that time, the one designed by Frank Miller.

Bucky: …Please tell me I didn’t kill anyone…Steve: Not for lack of trying. What the hell were you thinking, Buck?Bucky: I don’t know… I was just… Desperate. In Avengers v5 #2, Steve tells Tony they need a solid base of experienced Avengers on their expanded roster and Tony pulls up a preliminary list of past and present Avengers he recommends. Tony: Already there. i’ve done the initial vetting of everyone on this list. We’ll want to get into it a bit more…but for now, I think we’re find using this as a launching point.Steve: All right. — From Avengers v5 #2 by Jonathan Hickman, art by Jerome Opeña. February 2013. Since I’m curious who else Hickman is planning on bringing into his expanded Avengers team, I tried to put together as much of the list as I could. Some of the partially obscured names are easy to figure out, but some were harder. My best guesses: Wanda Maximoff Pietro Maximoff Hercules James Howlett Kelsey Shorr aka Lionheart (the only former Avenger I can find whose name ends in “orr”) Angelica Jones. (I’d originally thought Jessica Jones, but this makes much more sense) Delroy Garrett Jr. (another character of color, but not a very interesting one in my opinion) Vance Astrovik (figuring out Angelica made this obvious) Crystalia Amaquelin [Thanks ucarim!] [unknown] [unknown] (Maybe Walter Newell aka Stingray?) [unknown] Reed Richards? [unknown] Sue Storm? [unknown] Ben Grimm? (not a lot to go on with these three, but it fits and they have all been Avengers before) Marc Spector Bonita Juarez (another character of color. An interesting choice) James Rhodes [unknown] (I have a dark suspicion this is Barbara Morse listed as Barbara Barton and if so I am decidedly unimpressed.) Monica Rambeau (yes please!) Jennifer Walters Carol Danvers Samuel Wilson Simon Williams Patricia Walker Brian Braddock Matthew Murdoch Daisy Johnson James Barnes (I didn’t know Tony even knew Bucky was still alive)

I laughed to see Marc Spector there.  I’d like to see them pick either Monica Rambeau or Carol Danvers … and Wanda and Pietro.

Tony Stark: We have held for so long, but there is something looking just past the horizon.  We can’t see it, but it’s coming.  It’s going to be too much, and too soon — and we have to get ready now.  We’ll keep this quiet until they’re needed — you and I will do most of the recruiting. Specific people for specific needs.  But they’ll be out thee, ready… Waiting… And then, when that day comes, all you have to do is say the words.
